2025 HHWC Beginner Java Camp
our team successfully hosted a five-day Beginner Java Camp from July 21 to July 25, 2025. Led by teachers Eric Huang, Zhebin Zhang, and Jacky Wenjie Yan, the camp offered students a strong foundation in Java programming. Sessions were started daily at 1:30 PM, the regular lectures lasted for two hours. In addition to the regular lecture, Eric and Zhebin provided homework support, answered student questions, and dedicated time to reviewing and correcting assignments.
On day 1(July 21) , we went over instructions for installing IntelliJ, which we would use to write code, an overview of IntelliJ, printing, and basic operators that can be used in Java.
On day 2(July 22), we covered variables, data types, commenting, and type casting to manipulate values more effectively.
On day 3 (July 23) we explained conditionals, loops, and java arithmetic order of operations to improve the logic of our projects.
On day 4(July 24) we learned about arrays, tokens, scanners, and error handling
to allow the creation of programs which take user input.
On day 5(July 25) we ended with methods to reduce redundancy in our programsand created and shared our final projects, which incorporated everything we learned over the course of 5 days!
